All you need is basic DOS Skills and a bootable USB (all found on Google) and the DMIFIT tool and HPBQ138.EXE (also Google). Anyway, I found the proprietary HP utility for tatooing MBs, and I found a useable DOS boot utility, so I learned another process. Unfortunately, it does me little good as by the next time Ill need it, it'll be a long. The HPE USB Key Utility is a Windows application that will allow the user to copy the ISO and CD contents to a USB memory key using SmartStart CD, Firmware Maintenance CD, Smart Update Firmware DVD, Intelligent Provisioning Recovery DVD, Service Pack for ProLiants or other supported products. Users may then run the ISO and CD applications from a USB key.

Prerequisites:

One or more of the following:

  • HP Service Pack for ProLiant
  • HP SmartStart CD version 7.5x and greater.
  • HP Firmware Maintenance CD version 7.5x and greater.
  • HP Smart Update Firmware DVD version 9.00 and greater.
  • HP Easy Set-Up CD version with G6 servers and greater.

And:

  • Minimum 1GB USB 2.0 flash drive (maximum size is 32GB).

After successful installation of the HPE USB Key Utility, the USB flash drive can be used on supported ProLiant servers.

Installation:
Download the Smart Component to a directory on your hard drive and change to that directory. The downloaded file is a self-extracting executable with a filename based on the Smart Component Number.
From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file.

Description

1-USB Stick preparation
Insert the USB stick, it can be a model less or more than 4Go
Launch the hacked 'USB Disk Storage Format Tool'
1- Choose USB stick
FAT or FAT32
2- Check 'Create a DOS startup disk'
Check 'Using internal MS-DOS'
3- Press START button
Once finish, unplug the stick, and plug it again.
From HP DMI TOOLKIT archive, copy Autoexec.bat file and HPDMI folder in the
newly created USB stick
Boot the laptop with USB stick and follow instructions:
2- Using HP DMI tools
Once DOS boot sequence finished you will receive following prompts:
Type keyb xx (replace xx by your country code, eg: keyb fr, keyb uk,...)
and
Type dmifit to launch the HPDMI model recognition tool.
If your HP/COMPAQ model is supported, the appropriate tool will be launched;
otherwise you will receive an error message.
Note: if you know exactly the name of the tool who wants to use, eg: amidedos
type it directly.
Depending of the tool and what do you want to do (change OS SKU,
change serial number....) you will have to navigate in menus.
Once your changes finished, you can power off the laptop.
Note: This toolkit is using NbDmiFit-1.0F distribution with some enhancements:
-EL.bat bugs are fixed
-HPBQ142.EXE tool for Quanta Computers is hacked; the 'Advance Menu' is now
accessible.
-HPBQ193.EXE tool is hacked, for more options in menu.

How to Use:
1. Obtain DOS bootable media.
2. Download the zip file to a directory on your hard drive.
3. From that drive and directory, unzip the downloaded file to get the
file HpSetCfg.exe.
4. Copy the file HpSetCfg.exe to the bootable media obtained in step 1.
5. Power on or restart the computer to boot the affected notebook on the
DOS bootable media above.
6. Run HpSetCfg.exe and follow the on-screen prompts to program the
serial and model numbers.
